Sakura sunset

Peak bloom day, late afternoon, Tidal Basin, Washington DC. I was navigating the snarled sidewalk traffic of photographers and tour groups when I noticed this couple off to the side, completely lost in their own world. Standing a universe away in the midst of the pedestrian bustle, I watched them for way longer than I probably should have, snapped this picture, and left with a renewed sense of serenity.

Girl crush: Jane Goodall, who casually rocks up to DC federal buildings and breezes past security with a “Hello, darling,” rolls mad deep in stuffed animal toys, makes regional directors at the World Bank stand up on stage and demonstrate chimp behavior, and finishes her talks by hooting a chimp-style farewell. She’s a bad ass betch in a rockstar sweater.
